Tulum Pueblo |
||
Shopping and restaurantsTulum Pueblo is a shopping and restaurant center. There are dozens of mini supers, fruit and vegetable stands, and several hotels. It has two major bus stations which can take you around Mexico or to the border of Belize. It is a nice place to visit for the day, but if you are going to stay for a while the Tulum hotel zone has better hotels and camping on the beach. On the left in the middle of town is Cafe Frances, a nice place for breakfast or an afternoon pastry. Charlie's restaurant and bar is further down on the right. La Isla has vegetarian and Italian fare, and Burger and Blues is open at night. El Mesun is a large restaurant and hotel, Hotel Maya is another. La Luna Gitana is new and well recommended. For under $40 the Crucero Ruinas Tulum is a good deal (fax 984 87 12071). There are several dive shops scattered around, including the Aktun dive center and Aquatic Tulum. The money exchanges and long distance call offices are easy to find, as well as several doctors. There is actually an Internet cafe where you can send e-mails and access the internet. The town looks like Playa del Carmen did 5 years ago, but without the beach. |
